Dates for your Calendar in May

Greetings all, and happy May Day!
As I mentioned in last Tuesday's meeting, we have a very busy month ahead. So get out your calendars and note the following information:
THURSDAY, MAY 4th, 6 pm. Masons Dinner at the Lodge. Socializing begins at 6 pm, dinner at 6:30. Sister Dawn will be making street tacos, rice and beans with fresh fruit salad and homemade cookies for dessert. Dress is business casual. You may invite family and friends to join us for dinner, we'd love to have them. Please RSVP to Dawn Gummer at 760-799-4942 so we know how many to expect. The cost per person is $10.
SUNDAY MAY 7th: 2 pm at the lodge. Initiation Practice. This is for installed officers. Our deputy, Debbie Conway, will be leading us in our practice for this very important event. Please be prompt. Dress is casual. The practice may take about 2 hours.
TUESDAY MAY 9TH, 6 pm: Our first meeting of May! The dinner begins at 6 pm, with our meeting following at 7 pm. Our deputy, Debbie Conway, will be conducting her Official Visit. We are also having an initiation of our new member, Heather Reylek. In honor of our new initiate, the dress code will be semi-formal. Ladies, floor length or cocktail length below the knee dress or dressy skirts, and men black or dark suits. This is an exciting event in the life of a Chapter, and I look forward to welcoming our new sister.
SATURDAY MAY 20th, 11 am: Coachella Valley's Fashion Show and Luncheon! This event will be held at Heritage Palms Country Club in Indio. Tickets are $50.00 and include a delicious lunch and fashion show. This event is open to all of our women friends and family. In addition to the fashion show, there will be a silent auction, a 50-50 raffle, and door prizes. Please note that we are only able to accept cash or checks, no credit cards. Please contact Cec Speaker at 760-641-8864 or Raelene Qualls at 760-485-0887.
TUESDAY MAY 23rd, 6 pm: Memorial meeting. Dinner begins at 6 pm, with our meeting at 7. This is a very special, somber memorial service where we remember those chapter members we have lost during the year. Women officers will wear white floor length or knee length dress/skirt, and men black tuxes.
WEDNESDAY MAY 24TH: 6:30 pm. Scottish Rite Dinner at the lodge. Plan to come at 6 pm to socialize, with dinner served at 6:30. Please make a reservation on the Scottish Rite website, psscottishrite.org. The cost is $25 per person, and you may pay online when you make your reservation.
MONDAY MAY 29th, 9 am: Memorial Day Wreath Ceremony at Coachella Valley Cemetery, Coachella. Our chapter will be participating in this memorial service by presenting our Eastern Star wreath. This is such a touching event, with presentations by valley leaders and organizations. If you are interested in joining us, please contact me at 630-605-0896. Parking is very limited, so car-pooling is recommended.
Thank you all for your dedication, support, and fellowship. We have such a great chapter!

Easter Baskets 2023

Last Night's Meeting

Greetings everyone,

Thank you all for making last night's meeting so wonderful. We started out by filling 40 Easter Baskets for the kids in a local shelter. Dawn Gummer was instrumental in making this event possible by getting all the supplies together. Then Dawn and Donna Tucker took a full carload of baskets to the Coachella Valley Rescue Mission. You were all so very generous, the baskets were stuffed to the brim.
Dawn Gummer provided a wonderful dinner of meatloaf, mashed potatoes, green beans and homemade dinner rolls. After we ate, we celebrated a birthday - our Worthy Patron, Mert Gayler, turned 80!!!!! We sang Happy Birthday and enjoyed a beautiful cake for dessert.
Our Deputy Grand Matron, Debbie Conway, joined us last night. During our meeting, we affiliated our newest member, JayLynn Earl, who comes to us from Bandera, Texas. She is a member of the Cherokee Nation, and wore a ceremonial tribal dress for the affiliation. And guess what? Two of our other members told us they were ALSO Cherokee! Can you guess who?????
We talked about our upcoming fundraiser, the fashion show. Lorelei Ceja created a flyer and tickets for the event. We each were given five tickets to sell to our friends, family, and neighbors. The tickets are $50 which includes the meal and the fashion show. The event begins at 11 am, Saturday, May 20th, at the Heritage Palms Club House in Indio. The doors open at 11 am for socializing and silent auction of gift baskets. The meal service starts at noon, with the models strutting their stuff shortly afterwards. Please bring cash or check as no credit cards will be accepted. Any questions? Please contact Cec Speaker 760-641-8864, Raelene Qualls 760-485-0887, or Donna Tucker 760-668-6328.
Thanks again to all of you who made our meeting great. And those of you who were unable to attend, please know we missed you.
See you soon,
Jane Bradfield, Worthy Matron

Good morning,
Keeping in touch with your members on occasions other than at Stated Meetings lets them know they are thought of as an important part of your Chapter.
This activity was designed to help you find a creative way to keep in touch with your members and keep them active during those times when "we are apart, one from the other."
Thank you for your service and dedication,
The 2022-2023 Membership Committee

Grand Chapter of California, Order of the Eastern Star

PS We always appreciate feedback and input on Membership activities, so if you can find a few moments, please let us hear from you.

Membership Moment #3

Select one of your Chapter Membership Committee members to prepare an email message to
your members highlighting your upcoming events.
In the message explain that throughout the year OES is challenging all our members to be
active in the Membership growth of our wonderful Order.
Encourage them to participate in this by using the progressive actions from the ABCs in the
P.S. of your email. (That’s where you will include it in future messages as well.)
If you want to get creative, ask that they respond to you when they've completed the activity
and keep a record of their participation to reward them with recognition during your
Membership Report.
If you want to step up the participation reward, offer token prizes for the most participation
points as the year progresses.
If you want to step up the participation reward even further, offer a year-end prize for the
most participation points.
